Please register for the conference AND 2 breakout sessions, including one Interpersonal Violence Prevention (IPVP) session.

We are thrilled to bring Lori Hart to campus as our keynote speaker. The following is a description of her program, "The Safety Pillar": Just about any sorority or fraternity member has heard the term "The Pillars of Greek Life." When asked what the pillars represent, most members can easily rattle off the terms "brotherhood & sisterhood, scholarship, leadership, service & philanthropy" and for the most part, we have communities and chapters excelling in these areas. But, in these same communities, we are also excelling in hazing, drug use, assault and high-risk drinking. Perhaps this year, we need to re-frame this conversation. If we truly want to be brothers and sisters, we need to focus on a pillar of "safety" to ensure that all members, new members and guests are treated with dignity and respect and we keep each other safe because that is what real friendship is about and that is what being a good human being is truly about.

Check in begins at 12:30pm and your spot may not be guaranteed after 12:45pm.

If you have questions concerning access or to request accommodations for this conference, please contact the FSL Advisors at greeklife@sa.ucsb.edu.

Breakout 1: Imposter Syndrome

Do you ever feel like you've "fooled" those around you into thinking you're competent? Do you sometimes think that your success is due to dumb luck or a mistake? You might be experiencing imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is a collection of feelings of inadequacy that persist despite evident success. This can cause persistent feelings of being a fraud, fake, or imposter. Importantly, imposter syndrome is not simply an individual issue. It is a systemic problem in which the norms of institutions make marginalized individuals feel like they don't belong. In this breakout session, you will learn how imposter syndrome manifests and how to fight those feelings of double and insecurity on both the systemic and personal level.

This stress can impair relaxation, causing poor sleep quality. In this breakout session, you will learn about the manifestations of excessive stress, coping tools for managing stress, and strategies to improve sleep quality.

Breakout 1 (IPVP): Breaking the Man Box: Exploring Masculinity and Interpersonal Violence

The goal of this workshop is to understand the societal expectations placed on men and how that reinforces the notion of what 'real men' are supposed to be. In this workshop, we discuss dominant narratives of masculinity and its impacts on the community as well as men, and how they perpetuate interpersonal violence. We also discuss actions that participants can take in creating healthier masculinities, the norm at UCSB.
