Our mission is to reduce waste at UCSB both through direct collection and through education and information sharing. We believe that true environmental progress requires direct, hands-on action and personal responsibility, not just ideals and slogans. We, along with our partner organization The Department of Public Worms, are deeply committed to the day-to-day recycling, compost, and electronic waste collection services that have helped make UCSB a state and national leader in waste reduction for nearly 20 years. At the same time, we recognize that teaching students and staff how to recycle, compost, and reduce waste can have a huge impact both on and off campus, and is the only way to achieve lasting change. We value our campus and community, and are committed to a goal of zero waste at UCSB!

Civil Robotics is designing a new firefighting robot to increase the efficiency of fire preventative measures and minimize the risks to firefighters when combating forest fires. The robot will be a 4 x 6 x 2.5ft fully autonomous car with fan-like cutter blades allowing it to cut through brush and other flammable material. With the rate and extremity of wildfires in California rapidly rising due to climate change, it is becoming increasingly important to have a safe, effective, and efficient way to control them Civil Robotics' robot aims to achieve this.

1. To promote companies in private and public sectors to understand and act on their connections with the natural world. As a group, we will analyze some real-life problems (public or private) and come up with suggestions we feel fit the issue we are facing. After a careful analysis, we will construct a report that will contain our environmental suggestions as well as designs that fit our recommendation (marketing campaign, website redesigning, ect...). Those reports may or may not be sent to the company we have decided to analyze. As such, Clean Consulting will not “provide” consulting services, nor will it sign contracts with parties outside of UCSB.
2. To evaluate companies’ current practices and encourage the use of most sustainable strategies. For this, the Clean Consulting team will meet with mentors and professionals that have the experience to consult us on our work. In more detail, our team will look over energy use (water and electricity) and waste management strategies of the company/department being studied. From this data, the analyst team of Clean Consulting will be able to generate an environmental audit. Business strategies will also be analyzed. After looking at our findings, we will look at the best practices in the industry and finalize a report with all of our suggestions for our client. Some “green” marketing suggestions can also be made if the client has an opportunity to expand its services/products to “green” consumers.
3. To make companies aware of their corporate social responsibility and the growing presence of sustainability in the professional sphere.
4. To encourage student involvement in the sustainability field and help them gain experience and connections. We aim to collaborate with companies in the environmental consulting industry (or sustainability) to train the members of Clean Consulting; our “partner” company would act as a mentor, giving us advice and teaching us how to create environmental audits, reports, etc...

CEASE is a diverse coalition of individuals and organizations whose purpose is to protect the lives and health of Santa Barbara County residents from the harmful effects of tobacco and secondhand smoke - including emissions (vapors) from electronic smoking devices - and to expose the tobacco industry’s product marketing. In order to accomplish this, CEASE provides leadership and facilitates community mobilization through education, advocacy, and policy development.

CEASE prioritizes tobacco as a social justice issue to advance health equity. CEASE is open to all students interested in advocating for our community and ending the Tobacco epidemic in California. Members will be able to actively participate in local public health policy-making regarding tobacco issues. Members will have the chance to advocate, educate, and lead the community regarding tobacco-related events, improving public health and wellness. Members will also be provided with an insight into the workings of local government and play a role in reviewing the passing of ordinances centered around protecting community quality of life.

The mission of this organization is to provide its members opportunities to gain broader insight into the engineering profession by sponsoring meetings which will bring practicing engineers to the campus, arranging field trips to research and engineering establishments, sponsoring student projects of engineering interest, and participating in local SAE Section activities. It shall also be the purpose of this organization to encourage good fellowship among engineering students and their teachers.

Students who hold a valid, unexpired SAE Student Membership may join this organization and enjoy voting privileges in UCSBSAE. Faculty and staff members who hold a valid, unexpired SAE Membership may join this organization and enjoy voting privileges in UCSBSAE.

Students, faculty, and staff members who do not have a current SAE membership will be admitted as associate members and will not enjoy voting privileges.

The only difference between a full member and an associate member shall be the privilege to vote on items and in officer elections; associate members shall be entitled to actively participate in meetings and join committees and teams.

The Edible Campus Program aims to address local food insecurity by repurposing underutilized spaces for sustainable food production, turning waste into food, and engaging students as growers and producers. We train students in practices that address social, economic, and environmental aspects of sustainability and help them to reclaim their personal connection to the land and their food.

The purpose of the FWF chapter at UCSB is to promote knowledge of the FWF organization and scholarship grants available to students who have lost a parent that was part of the ocean community. The FWF chapter at UCSB is the first school chapter started with the FWF organization to help get college aged kids involved in its mission. FWF's stated mission on their website is: Our mission is to help the children of fallen watermen get the college educations their parents would want them to have. This is open to anybody who has made the ocean part of their lives...not just sponsored athletes. The goal of FWF is to ensure that 95% of the donations go directly to pay for the college tuitions for the children of fallen watermen and women.

Goleta Coast Audubon Society is UCSB's birding and bird conservation club. We are a registered campus organization at UCSB and an official campus chapter of the National Audubon Society. We are comprised of both undergraduate and graduate students, and we organize bird walks, conservation projects, and advocacy initiatives. Our mission is to protect wildlife and the habitat it needs to thrive, while engaging and educating students and the public on science and conservation issues pertaining to birds.

We generally post our meetings on Shoreline, but the best way to find out about upcoming events is to join our email listserv. We also have a very active Slack channel with several messages per day. We're always looking for people who want to learn about birds and get involved in the organization.

Our mission is to facilitate the transition to ethical, affordable, and sustainable plant-based food systems, starting with the community in and around UCSB.

Plants are at the intersection of at least a dozen problems and opportunities in our food system: climate change, public health, food insecurity, biodiversity, food access, diversity and inclusion, soil health, law and policy, technology, food justice, animal welfare, and antibiotic resistance. Driving the rapid emergence of a plant-centric food system is a critical lever of change to creatively address all these issues.

Our club is a chapter of the Plant Futures Initiative network. Plant Futures can act as a bridge between passionate students and organizations and companies who are looking for talent and solutions to the emerging problems of the plant-based food space.

The Eco Vista Festicon will be an interactive festival with a focus on sustainability and the eventual creation of Eco Vista. Eco Vista is essentially the idea of Isla Vista taking leadership in sustainability practices within our community to spread awareness and educate the community on the climate crisis. A festival is a great way to bring the ENTIRE community together while still keeping it fun and palatable for everyone involved. The “conference” aspect of the Festicon will be comprised of various speakers and activations from sustainability companies/ organizations on sustainability and the climate crisis to spread awareness and educate the community. The Eco Vista Festicon will bring the excitement of a festival while simultaneously educating the community.
