Our mission is to reduce waste at UCSB both through direct collection and through education and information sharing. We believe that true environmental progress requires direct, hands-on action and personal responsibility, not just ideals and slogans. We, along with our partner organization The Department of Public Worms, are deeply committed to the day-to-day recycling, compost, and electronic waste collection services that have helped make UCSB a state and national leader in waste reduction for nearly 20 years. At the same time, we recognize that teaching students and staff how to recycle, compost, and reduce waste can have a huge impact both on and off campus, and is the only way to achieve lasting change. We value our campus and community, and are committed to a goal of zero waste at UCSB!

UCSB Bioethics Bowl pursues intellectual growth and social responsibility. We serve as a platform for students to critically examine and discuss the pressing bioethical issues of our time. As both a competitive team and an inclusive community, we strive to create a culture of informed dialogue and philosophical inquiry.

For those on the competition team:
Competing in Bioethics Bowl allows team members to hone their skills in both thoughtful philosophical reflection and thinking on their feet. It also encourages the development of public speaking and presentation skills, specifically with regards to articulating complicated philosophical arguments in plain language. Bioethics Bowl competitions are not about dominating the other side, but about having a conversation–and competing enables team members to have those conversations all over the country. Within the past year, we have traveled to Atlanta, Santa Cruz and Boston!

For those attending weekly discussions:
Joining our competition team is not required for participating in Bioethics Bowl. We host weekly socials in conjunction with UCSB Ethics Bowl where people can come together casually to talk about ethical issues and share their insights.

CEASE is a diverse coalition of individuals and organizations whose purpose is to protect the lives and health of Santa Barbara County residents from the harmful effects of tobacco and secondhand smoke - including emissions (vapors) from electronic smoking devices - and to expose the tobacco industry's product marketing. In order to accomplish this, CEASE provides leadership and facilitates community mobilization through education, advocacy, and policy development.

CEASE prioritizes tobacco as a social justice issue to advance health equity. CEASE is open to all students interested in advocating for our community and ending the Tobacco epidemic in California. Members will be able to actively participate in local public health policy-making regarding tobacco issues. Members will have the chance to advocate, educate, and lead the community regarding tobacco-related events, improving public health and wellness. Members will also be provided with an insight into the workings of local government and play a role in reviewing the passing of ordinances centered around protecting community quality of life.

The mission of this organization is to provide its members opportunities to gain broader insight into the engineering profession by sponsoring meetings which will bring practicing engineers to the campus, arranging field trips to research and engineering establishments, sponsoring student projects of engineering interest, and participating in local SAE Section activities. Goleta Coast Audubon Society is UCSB's birding and bird conservation club. We are a registered campus organization at UCSB and an official campus chapter of the National Audubon Society. We are comprised of both undergraduate and graduate students, and we organize bird walks, conservation projects, and advocacy initiatives. Our mission is to protect wildlife and the habitat it needs to thrive, while engaging and educating students and the public on science and conservation issues pertaining to birds.

We generally post our meetings on Shoreline, but the best way to find out about upcoming events is to join our email listserv. We also have a very active Slack channel with several messages per day. Our club will promote Gravity Water's mission to "turn rain into safe drinking water for schools in need around the world." The University Program is composed of university-specific chapters ("Chapters"), with each chapter being composed of a community of young professionals who are passionate about combating the global water crisis.

The co-op is designed to help students create, connect, and sell! Through workshops, we aim to help students develop their craft, try out new media, and learn about the process of setting up and maintaining a small business. We aim to create an open space for students to bond with others who share the same dream of stepping into the small business world through a creative lens, empowering independent creators to break through the intimidating barriers that obstruct first-time business founders. We also provide space for local residents in Isla Vista and anyone in Santa Barbara County to sell their belongings from their residence at Yard Sale and Swapmeet Events.

SEEDS (Strategies for Ecological Education, Diversity, and Sustainability) is a student group associated with the Ecological Society of America (ESA). It offers hands-on, engaging experiences with ecology that exhibit the relevance and applications of the sciences as well as information about careers in Ecological Science. Each experience also provides opportunities to interact with a diverse group of ecologists and other motivated students to both broaden and deepen students' understanding of ecology and potential careers.

As a chapter of the Ecological Society of America (ESA is the nation's leading professional society of ecologists, and its mission is to promote ecological science by improving communication among ecologists; raise public awareness of the importance of ecological science; increase the resources available for the conduct of ecological science; and foster the diffusion of scientific and technical knowledge, and its use), SEEDS is able to provide unique opportunities and experiences to members.
