UCSB Bioethics Bowl pursues intellectual growth and social responsibility. We serve as a platform for students to critically examine and discuss the pressing bioethical issues of our time. As both a competitive team and an inclusive community, we strive to create a culture of informed dialogue and philosophical inquiry.

For those on the competition team:
Competing in Bioethics Bowl allows team members to hone their skills in both thoughtful philosophical reflection and thinking on their feet. It also encourages the development of public speaking and presentation skills, specifically with regards to articulating complicated philosophical arguments in plain language. Bioethics Bowl competitions are not about dominating the other side, but about having a conversation–and competing enables team members to have those conversations all over the country. Within the past year, we have traveled to Atlanta, Santa Cruz and Boston!

For those attending weekly discussions:
Joining our competition team is not required for participating in Bioethics Bowl. We host weekly socials in conjunction with UCSB Ethics Bowl where people can come together casually to talk about ethical issues and share their insights.

CEASE is a diverse coalition of individuals and organizations whose purpose is to protect the lives and health of Santa Barbara County residents from the harmful effects of tobacco and secondhand smoke - including emissions (vapors) from electronic smoking devices - and to expose the tobacco industry's product marketing. In order to accomplish this, CEASE provides leadership and facilitates community mobilization through education, advocacy, and policy development.

CEASE prioritizes tobacco as a social justice issue to advance health equity. CEASE is open to all students interested in advocating for our community and ending the Tobacco epidemic in California. Members will be able to actively participate in local public health policy-making regarding tobacco issues. Members will have the chance to advocate, educate, and lead the community regarding tobacco-related events, improving public health and wellness. Members will also be provided with an insight into the workings of local government and play a role in reviewing the passing of ordinances centered around protecting community quality of life.

The mission of this organization is to provide its members opportunities to gain broader insight into the engineering profession by sponsoring meetings which will bring practicing engineers to the campus, arranging field trips to research and engineering establishments, sponsoring student projects of engineering interest, and participating in local SAE Section activities. It shall also be the purpose of this organization to encourage good fellowship among engineering students and their teachers.

Students, faculty, and staff members who do not have a current SAE membership will be admitted as associate members and will not enjoy voting privileges.

The only difference between a full member and an associate member shall be the privilege to vote on items and in officer elections; associate members shall be entitled to actively participate in meetings and join committees and teams.

The Edible Campus Program aims to address local food insecurity by repurposing underutilized spaces for sustainable food production, turning waste into food, and engaging students as growers and producers. The Environmental Law Club (ELC) at UCSB’s mission is to understand and utilize the law to protect people and the environment. Goleta Coast Audubon Society is UCSB's birding and bird conservation club. We are a registered campus organization at UCSB and an official campus chapter of the National Audubon Society. We are comprised of both undergraduate and graduate students, and we organize bird walks, conservation projects, and advocacy initiatives. Our mission is to protect wildlife and the habitat it needs to thrive, while engaging and educating students and the public on science and conservation issues pertaining to birds.

We generally post our meetings on Shoreline, but the best way to find out about upcoming events is to join our email listserv. We also have a very active Slack channel with several messages per day. We're always looking for people who want to learn about birds and get involved in the organization.

Our club will promote Gravity Water's mission to "turn rain into safe drinking water for schools in need around the world." The University Program is composed of university-specific chapters ("Chapters"), with each chapter being composed of a community of young professionals who are passionate about combating the global water crisis.

Gravity Water's Chapter Internship Program provides multiple benefits to those who receive them. The IV Small Artists Co-op is designed to help students create, connect, and (if they wish) sell! We use "Small Artist" as an expansive term inclusive of everyone from visual artists to musicians, vintage clothing curators, cooks, photographers, and more. We host workshops, small business markets, socials, and pretty much any cool events our members wish to create!

Through workshops, we aim to help students develop their craft, try out new media, and/or learn about the process of setting up and maintaining a small business. This is an anti-monopolist, collaborative community meant to cultivate a sense of belonging in Isla Vista/at UCSB and make creative activities accessible for all, whether that be as a hobby or a source of income.

Members are given priority in being considered for vendor positions at our events, gaining access to IV community spaces that would otherwise be difficult to book. Members also integrate into our supportive network, interacting with currently-practicing vendors who have prior experience running small businesses. Students can get hands-on experience about event planning through helping prepare markets/workshops, and are encouraged to put forth their own ideas. Students are able to try new artistic disciplines from free or low-cost workshops set up by experienced creators and peers, and can engage in art/small business on their own terms with the full support of our team! In addition to larger events or markets, we will have regular general meetings and fun socials to hang out and build community.

SEEDS (Strategies for Ecological Education, Diversity, and Sustainability) is a student group associated with the Ecological Society of America (ESA). It offers hands-on, engaging experiences with ecology that exhibit the relevance and applications of the sciences as well as information about careers in Ecological Science. Each experience also provides opportunities to interact with a diverse group of ecologists and other motivated students to both broaden and deepen students' understanding of ecology and potential careers.

As a chapter of the Ecological Society of America (ESA is the nation's leading professional society of ecologists, and its mission is to promote ecological science by improving communication among ecologists; raise public awareness of the importance of ecological science; increase the resources available for the conduct of ecological science; and foster the diffusion of scientific and technical knowledge, and its use), SEEDS is able to provide unique opportunities and experiences to members.
