The UCSB Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry provides exciting research at the cutting edge of modern chemical and biochemical science. Our faculty is exceptionally distinguished, including two Nobel laureates, and publications from our department were the 7th most cited in the nation among all chemistry departments, as reported by Chemical and Engineering News.

We offer state-of-the-art facilities for research in all areas of chemistry and biochemistry. Graduates of the PhD program are well-equipped to pursue a wide variety of career options.

Our program fosters interdisciplinary collaborations both on campus and with scientists nationally and internationally. Affiliated research units on campus include the Materials Research Laboratory, the California Nanosystems Institute, the Institute for Terahertz Science and Technology, the Neuroscience Research Institute, the Marine Science Institute, the Center for BioEngineering, and the Mitsubishi Chemical - Center for Advanced Materials.

Active Minds is a national 501(c)3 organization that empowers students to speak openly about mental health in order to educate others and encourage help-seeking. We are changing the culture on campuses and in the community by providing information, leadership opportunities and advocacy training to the next generation.

By developing and supporting chapters of a student-run mental health awareness, education, and advocacy group on campuses nationwide, the nonprofit organization works to increase students' awareness of mental health issues, provide information and resources regarding mental health and mental illness, encourage students to seek help as soon as it is needed, and serve as liaison between students and the mental health community.

Through campus-wide events and national programs, Active Minds aims to remove the stigma that surrounds mental health issues, and create a comfortable environment for an open conversation about mental health issues on campuses nationwide.

We're a campus ministry on the UC Santa Barbara campus that believes that college is the perfect time to explore the big questions like, "Does God exist?" and "What am I here for?"

At A2F, we try to recreate what we read in Acts chapter 2 of the Bible — ordinary folks forming an extraordinary community. We meet weekly on campus to study the Bible, as well as throughout the week for small groups and other activities. It's a safe place to make some friends, think about the big questions of life, and get some answers as we investigate and discover God's purpose for us.

Our mission is to create opportunities for students to obtain a better understanding of the actuarial career, connect with other students studying actuarial exams, and build relationships with industry professionals that can lead to internships and jobs. We host an Actuarial Career Fair in the Fall, resume and interview workshops, info sessions with hiring companies, guest speaker events with practicing actuaries, programming workshops, and fun socials to network with other actuarial students. We also have exam prep guides to check out at the Statistics Department, discount codes for online study materials, and an exam reimbursement policy.

Department of Special Research Collections (SRC) in the UCSB Library) with consideration of the group's founding scope statement:

"The UC Santa Barbara Library has agreed to preserve and make accessible historical materials related to the tragedy of May 23, 2014 in the Department of Special Collections. To accomplish this goal, two library representatives are working with the Ad-Hoc Memorial Preservation Group to identify, acquire, preserve, and describe materials related to the incident. The group has been actively collecting two types of materials in both digital and physical formats: 1) a representative sample of condolence items and 2) records documenting the University's response to the event. The first meeting of the Ad-Hoc Group was held on June 13, 2014. Since that date the membership has expanded so that the group has representatives of campus administration, the Library, the faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and UCSB Alumni."

While the collection is now processed and subject to the collection practices of the Department of Special Research Collections, this group may be involved in activities to further engage faculty, staff, and community members in continuing memorialization and in educational engagement activities related to the tragedy and the memorial collection.

UCSB Adventure Programs exists to enhance campus and community life by providing educational and recreational experiences through wilderness trips, outdoor recreation classes, ropes courses, and climbing center programs. Our philosophy is to hire people who are responsible, enthusiastic, hardworking, and willing to learn. More important than technical experience in the activities we do, we want people who are "heads up" in terms of risk management, awareness, customer service and interested in professional development. Many of the skills necessary for employment can be learned on the job or during the Leadership Training Course.

The Afghan Student Association is open to anyone interested in having fun and meeting new people! We want to promote the unique culture, history and traditions of Afghanistan, unite the local Afghan community both on and off-campus, educate the student body on social issues pertaining to Afghanistan and support the human rights of Afghan people. The African diasporic Cultural Resource Center (AdCRC) educates, promotes, and encourages the interaction and dialogue among the diverse ethnic groups within the African diasporic communities of UCSB and to promote cross cultural learning and interaction amongst all ethnic groups. The AdCRC is an environment for students, staff, faculty and community members to develop an understanding of and appreciation for their African diasporic cultural identities. AdCRC staff strives to create and maintain a welcoming atmosphere for all to acquire knowledge in relation to the diversity of cultures within the African diaspora.

The AdCRC strives to assist in the holistic development of students of the African diaspora by focusing on several areas: academic excellence, cultural awareness, leadership development, social involvement, and proactive civic engagement. As a result of successfully developing our students in each of the aforementioned areas, the AdCRC, in turn, aids in the overall retention and graduation rates of our Black students at UCSB.
