In Sexual Citizens: A Landmark Study of Sex, Power, and Assault on Campus, Columbia University Professors Jennifer S. Hirsch and Shamus Khan lay out an expansive, empirically-grounded vision for campus sexual assault prevention. By taking an ecological approach to the prevention of sexual violence, they show how racial inequality on campus leads to power imbalances which then becomes a contributing factor to the circumstances leading to sexual violence. The book concludes with a bracing set of recommendations for what families, teachers, policy makers, and leaders in higher education can do to prevent it.
Professors Hirsch and Khan will be interviewed followed by a panel discussion with Professor Tristan Bridges (Department of Sociology) and Jacqueline Isero (Class of 2022) Co-sponsored by CARE and Associated Students. Limited copies of the book are available by contacting Seth Goradietsky at sgoradietsky@ucsb.edu
