Nature Awareness Series!

Free for everyone! |

Tuesday | 8 –8:30 pm | Jan 26 | The "Truth" About Weeds

Hosted by Kirsten Cook

The purpose of this workshop is to give participants a better idea of what weeds are and why we call them that. We will also expand up on the idea that "weed" is a social construct that many cultures, especially indigenous ones, don't have a word for. Then we will discuss the positives and negatives of common weeds, and if we have time, I'll tell you which ones are edible!

Learn natural history, eco-friendly ethics and risk management!

UCSB Adventure Programs is very proud to offer a place-based Zoom-workshop series by our own staff naturalist, Kirsten Cook, designed to promote nature awareness, develop healthy outdoor ethics, increase knowledge about local ecosystems, and teach about personal care and safety when recreating in the outdoors.

Come join us for discussions and activities on a host of fascinating topics including plant and animal identification, risk awareness and management, outdoor recreation tips and tricks, local indigenous ethnobotany and history, seaside ecosystems, Leave No Trace principles, sustainable foraging, local geology and geography, and so much more!

These will be weekly, 30 minute interactive Zoom-call workshops, presented by our Adventure Programs staff. Join us each week for another exciting topic on our place based nature series!

Register above to receive your email confirmation and reminder with the zoom link details!
