In this talk, Dr. Maggie Bell will explore changes in the museum field over the last two years by looking at two
exhibitions she curated at the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, one in the galleries, The Expressive
Body: Memory, Devotion, Desire 1400-1750, and the other online, Representing Women: Gender and
Portraiture in 17 th -century Europe. Each responds to shifts born out of the pandemic as well as ongoing
conversations around equitable practices in museums. Be sure to view Representing Women before the
talk: https://www.nortonsimon.org/exhibitions/virtual-exhibitions/representing-women/

Dr. Maggie Bell is an Assistant Curator at the Norton Simon Museum. She received her Ph.D. from the
Department of the History of Art and Architecture at UCSB in 2019.
