Inaugural Scholar Rescue Fund Lecture & Reception - Stories from Cameroon's Civil War: Women Exposing Environmental Impact

The brunt of the Civil War in Cameroon is experienced by women and has a deep impact on the environment. This presentation focuses on the socio-economic, cultural and ecological context of ecofeminism in English speaking Cameroon, a polity with a unique pre-colonial, colonial and post-colonial experience. Professor Elisabeth Ayuk-Etang argues that each phase of Cameroonian history impacts women–nature relations in its own unique way.

As part of International Education Week, Global Engagement welcomes Professor Elisabeth Ayuk-Etang, the Scholar Rescue Fund (SRF) Fellow at UC Santa Barbara for 2022-2023. Dr. Ayuk-Etang is the recipient of the Janet Hennessey Dilenschneider Scholar Rescue Award in the Arts. The Scholar Rescue Fund (SRF) offers temporary fellowships to help support scholars whose lives or careers are threatened. Dr. Ayuk-Etang has joined us from the University of Buea Cameroon, where she is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of English.
