Mission
Contact: Grisel Jimenez-santos, Yvonne Gonzalez martinez, Email group officers
Mission El Congreso is a student-led cultural, social, and activist organization that advocates for liberation through self-determination, comunidad and the collectivity of the people. We promote the uplifting of marginalized communities on and off campus. Our organization is committed to fighting against diverse issues that Latinx people face through direct action, education, and organizing. El Congreso was founded in 1973, through the combination of two groups: MEChA and La Raza Libre. We are the official MEChA chapter at UCSB. Every year, El Congreso holds a large event that is known as Latinx College Day (LCD). This event is organized by the Congresistxs to provide Latinx high school students with information about college, but also about their history and their people. We provide workshops from a wide range of topics, entertainment, presentations and a day of fun for the students. We are a space that embraces every identity and, encourages every Latinx students to be unapologetically themselves.More info at https://elcongresodeucsb.weebly.com!
